Rebecca Nicole Sefscik Memorial Fund

Established: 12/11/2018

Becky SefscikAnyone who knew Rebecca Nicole Sefscik will never forget her. On August 31, 2015, the world lost Becky to suicide. She was more than a solider or statistic. Becky was a daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend to so many. She was a successful businesswoman and a Crossfit trainer. She was a sweet, generous and strong woman and put a smile on everyone’s face.

Becky fulfilled her dream of attending Penn State University, at the Altoona campus. At just 20 years old, and still greatly affected by the attacks on 9/11 years before, Becky came home from Penn State one weekend to inform her family and friends that she had enlisted in the military. She wanted to make a difference in this world and fight for her country.Becky Sefscik

Becky spent her 21st birthday in freezing temperatures at boot camp. She was quickly recognized as being a leader. Through her six years of military service, Becky was promoted regularly. She readily volunteered to deploy to Belad, Iraq. During each of her deployments, she offered her time volunteering – trying to leave each of her destinations a bit better than she found them.

Upon returning to civilian life, as many veterans do, Becky struggled to assimilate back into society. She channeled that into work and working out. She loved Crossfit and, driven by a passion to help others, she got her certification. She spent much of her time helping others transform into the best version of themselves.

On the anniversary of her passing, Crossfit gyms around the world still honor her spirit in doing the “Becky WOD.” It’s a workout that she designed and is just as tough as she was.

The Rebecca Nicole Sefscik Fund was established in 2019 by her father to ensure that Becky’s profound effect on the world continued. The fund focuses on the struggles that veterans face. Anyone who knew Becky carries a piece of her spirit with them wherever they go. She is a person who would only want her story to be told to help others.
