Small and Mighty: Autism Urban Connections Inc.

""

The Pittsburgh Foundation’s Small and Mighty program awarded $15,000 to All About the Youth Community Center in 2021. Autism Urban Connections has a vision that all families receive individualized supports and education.

With an emphasis on self-care, Autism Urban Connections (AUC) provides education, support, advocacy and empowerment to Black families with children experiencing autism spectrum disorder. AUC provides support groups, training, informational sessions and workshops to connect families. The organization provides online resources for training and different resources for food assistance. AUC applies a racial equity lens to its work by seeking to minimize diagnostic disparities, including late stage and the underdiagnoses of Black children experiencing autism. This grant will increase the organization’s capacity to help families meet their emotional support needs, physical and mental health care needs and navigate the health care system.

The Small and Mighty grants program focuses on grant seeking for small nonprofits that are meeting basic needs in our region. Since 2016, the program has awarded funding to many nonprofit organizations with budgets of less than $600,000. A list of all Small and Mighty Grantees is on the Foundation’s website
