Small and Mighty: Western Penn Hills Community Action

The Pittsburgh Foundation’s Small and Mighty program awarded $15,000 to Western Penn Hills Community Action in 2021. The organization works to build individuals, families and communities into a healthy and functioning multi-generational community.

Western Penn Hills Community Action (WPHCA) provides services to youth and families primarily in the Penn Hills region through collaboration with government, public, private, corporate, educational and social service providers. With this grant, WPHCA plans to support Project Right Start, which is designed to prevent and divert Black youth from becoming trapped in the criminal legal system. The project will include formal mentorship with skilled volunteers and trained clinicians, workshops on key life skills such as conflict resolution, teamwork, job readiness, traffic stop response, emotional regulation, financial literacy, goal setting and workforce development.

The Small and Mighty grants program focuses on grant seeking for small nonprofits that are meeting basic needs in our region. Since 2016, the program has awarded funding to many nonprofit organizations with budgets of less than $600,000. View all Small and Mighty grantees.
