Small and Mighty: Reimagine Turtle Creek Watershed & Airshed Communities

Reimagine Turtle Creek Watershed & Airshed Communities

The Pittsburgh Foundation’s Small and Mighty program awarded $15,000 to Reimagine Turtle Creek Watershed and Airshed Communities in 2021. The organization works to demand sustainable change to protect the interconnected water and airshed that encompass these connected communities.

Reimagine Turtle Creek Watershed and Airshed Communities is a grassroots sustainable development initiative that aims to transition the watershed into a regenerative future, where people do less harm by fixing the harm done to the environment. With the grant, the organization can support Reimagine Food Systems, a developing network of at-home-raised garden beds in communities with limited access to healthy, fresh food. The comprehensive skill-building program empowers low-income, primarily Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) families to grow their own food and thus subsidize food costs throughout the year. The grant will support the staff, supplies and other operations for the developing network.

The Small and Mighty grants program focuses on grant seeking for small nonprofits that are meeting basic needs in our region. Since 2016, the program has awarded funding to many nonprofit organizations with budgets of less than $600,000. A list of all Small and Mighty Grantees is on the Foundation’s website.
