Helen and James Huegel Fund

James Huegel was a lifelong lawyer who worked both in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. He passed away on Feb. 26, 2012 at the age of 95.

A graduate of Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster in 1938, he obtained his law degree from The University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1943. During WWII, he served in The Merchant Marines.

His career began in earnest when he started working for the Pennsylvania Railroad Legal Department in Philadelphia. He was later employed as Assistant General Counsel with The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in Baltimore. In 1955, he began working for the Consolidation Coal Company in Pittsburgh as Assistant General Counsel. He moved up the ranks to Executive Vice President and remained there until his retirement in 1981.

As an executive for the coal company, James travelled extensively to Japan, Korea, Europe and Canada. He was also an energy and transportation consultant in Pittsburgh for domestic and foreign clients. He gave his time to a number of charitable organizations and boards and was an avid golfer.

The fund supports general economic and community development.
