As director of communications and marketing, Matt oversees projects that increase stakeholder engagement and public understanding of The Pittsburgh Foundation's key initiatives, with the goal of advancing the organization's strategic plan. He works closely with the vice president of communications and external affairs, as well as the Foundation's sharp and affable communications team.

Matt joined The Pittsburgh Foundation in 2024. Prior to this role, he spent 15 years in the corporate, civic, non-profit and higher education sectors. Most recently, he served Carnegie Mellon University as senior executive communications manager for university president Farnam Jahanian. Before taking that position in 2021, Matt worked for eight years as senior director of marketing and digital communications at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development. He previously held communications-related positions with the Community College of Allegheny County, K&L Gates law firm and Allegheny County Council. Matt has served on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP). He earned his undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Pittsburgh. Matt grew up south of Pittsburgh in Washington County but now resides in Mt. Lebanon, which according to his questionable calculations is central to the best pizza establishments in southwestern Pennsylvania.
