Carol Joy Powell joined the Pittsburgh Foundation in August 2023 as the senior scholarship coordinator. In that role, she administers the scholarship program, which houses over 375 donor-established scholarship funds. Before coming to the Foundation, Carol Joy was a development associate at CCAC’s Educational Foundation. She has about 15 years of experience in the education space. With a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Carol Joy began her career as a software and systems design engineer at U.S. Steel and ALCOA before moving to Ohio and taking time off to raise her four children. When she re-entered the work force she pivoted her career to non-profit and education. She and her husband returned to their native Pittsburgh area in 2020, and now enjoy having all of their children here as well.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, crafting gifts and event planning. She especially delights in thinking through all the details that make an event truly meaningful. If given the option, she would live on the beach.
