Dietrich Foundation Conneaut Lake Fund invites 2018 grant applications

PITTSBURGH, Pa., Dec. 11, 2017 - The Pittsburgh Foundation is accepting grant applications for The Dietrich Foundation Conneaut Lake, Pa. Fund. Selection of grantees will be made by the nine-member committee of The Dietrich Foundation and awards will be announced in late April.

To qualify for funding, proposals must be directed to cultural, educational and other charitable organizations and projects of direct benefit to Conneaut Lake. Grant proposals must be submitted online by 12 p.m. on Feb. 12 at https://pittsburghfoundation.org/dietrichconneaut.

Approximately $13,000 will be available from the fund. Of that total, 30 percent will be designated for operations of Ice House Park. The remaining amount – about $9,100 – will be distributed through the competitive process managed by the committee. Eligible grantees must be 501(c)3 organizations that are not classified as private foundations under Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Service code. The Borough of Conneaut Lake also is eligible. Annual amounts available for grant awards are expected to increase in future years.

The previous round of grants, announced in June of 2017, awarded $8,864 to three Conneaut Lake organizations:

The Conneaut Lake Community Development Committee, which received $5,000 to fund nine of 18 lamp posts as part of a Conneaut Lake revitalization project.

South Lake Preserve for Ice House Park, which was awarded $2,864 in operating funds. Ice House Park, dedicated in 2009, commemorates the ice house industry that lined the southern shore of Conneaut Lake in the early 20th century.

The Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, which was awarded $1,000 for supplies and volunteer recruitment and training for its Girl Scouts Leadership Experience in Conneaut Lake. The Experience provided girls in Conneaut Lake with valuable life skills training in STEM subjects, community service, financial leadership/entrepreneurship, environmental stewardship, and leadership and professional development.

The Dietrich Foundation Conneaut Lake, Pa. Fund was established as part of an estate bequest from former steel industry executive William S. Dietrich II, who died in 2011. The fund is managed at The Pittsburgh Foundation and is advised by board members of The Dietrich Foundation.
