Grantmaking at The Pittsburgh Foundation
Throughout its history, The Pittsburgh Foundation has sought to meet the changing needs of our region. Our purpose has always been to focus on the people of our community, through engaged grantmaking and strategic partnerships with other organizations.
The Pittsburgh Foundation recently completed a comprehensive planning process, resulting in a more focused approach, and targeting five goal areas where our unrestricted grants will be made:
- Achieving Educational Excellence and Equity
- Supporting Families, Children and Youth
- Fostering Economic Development
- Reducing Disparities in Health Outcomes
- Advancing the Arts
We believe this targeted approach to philanthropy will allow The Pittsburgh Foundation to have a greater impact on our community. We will remain mindful, however, of significant needs that do not fall within our targeted areas, and have created a Responsiveness Fund to help meet those needs.
The targeted areas for impact and Responsiveness Fund apply only to unrestricted funds. As in the past, donor designated funds will continue to fulfill donor intent and will support areas specifically recommended by our donors. In addition, through a number of donor-directed funds, The Pittsburgh Foundation offers substantial grants for medical research, scholarships and donor designated organizations.
This more targeted approach toward grantmaking will contribute to Pittsburgh’s growth as a city and as a community that values and nurtures all of its citizens. |
