Giving to The Pittsburgh Foundation

The Pittsburgh Foundation helps to build and strengthen the community by making it possible for a wide range of donors to create permanent, named endowment funds to meet critical local or national needs. Because we are a community foundation, our donors can benefit from considerable tax savings.

Many funds are established during a donor’s lifetime to provide an opportunity to participate in grant making. Other funds are established by bequest or some other method of deferred giving. Either way, a donor will have the help of our experienced staff to set up and administer a fund, manage its successful growth and ensure that charitable objectives are met.

Below are profiles of just a few of the many generous donors at The Pittsburgh Foundation:

Tom Usher
Tom was CEO of U.S. Steel until 2004 and plans long-term to give away most of what he’s earned. He and his wife, Sandy, are starting a camp for primarily inner-city kids.

Max Starks
Max Starks’ service to others began as a youngster in the Boys and Girls Club. Since joining the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2004, he started a fund to focus on children’s literacy and education.

Ron and Judi Owen
Ron and Judi established a fund in December of 2004 in memory of their daughter, Sarah Kristin.

Joe and Carol Massaro
Joe and Carol created their fund as a way to give back to Pittsburgh’s great resources.

Leo Castagnari

Leo's family fund was started out of a desire to continue his parent’s legacy of giving.

Leslie Brockett-Wohlfarth

Leslie raises between $7,000 and $9,000 each year to help a local college student with education expenses through the Don Brockett Memorial Scholarship Fund.
