LVE/Patricia A. Urban Memorial Scholarship Fund The Patricia A. Urban Memorial Scholarship was established at The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County as a lasting tribute to both Patricia Urban and her son, Philip, who selflessly provided the means to establish this scholarship. Patricia was a remarkable woman dedicated to her family and her faith and had a strong commitment to education and community. She and her husband, Peter, relocated from the steel town of Braddock to the Ligonier Valley in 1972, after their two oldest sons had graduated high school. Their four younger children then graduated from Ligonier Valley High School in 1976, 1978, 1980 and 1988. Always a working mother, Patricia was the parish secretary at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ligonier for nearly 20 years, where she was actively involved in the church’s Community Service Committee and Christian Mothers organization. She was a member of the Ligonier Mounties Football Mothers group and you could hear her cheering on her son, Philip (#65 – Class of ’76), at every game! She was an inspiration to her children and instilled in them the importance of education, hard work and giving back to others who are less fortunate. With dignity and grace, Patricia passed away in 2001. Patricia’s beloved son, Philip, a Vice President and Project Manager for SAIC in Reston, Virginia, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2008. He lost his courageous 10‐month battle with this cancer in October 2009 at the age of 51. It was his wish to establish a scholarship program at his alma mater in memory of his mother. We celebrate the lives of Patricia and Philip through this lasting legacy that will benefit and enrich the lives of many Ligonier Valley High School graduates in perpetuity. (Immediate family members of any person serving on the Ligonier Valley Endowment Board of Governors are ineligible for this scholarship.)
