Harriet and Wilson Rush Memorial Scholarship Fund The Harriet and Wilson Rush Memorial Scholarship Fund was established at The Pittsburgh Foundation in memory of Harriet Rush, who graduated from Washington High School in 1931. After receiving her nursing degree from Easton Hospital, she took employment with the New Jersey Department of Health. While a public health school nurse in Washington Borough from 1941 until her retirement in 1977, she assisted the Red Cross in teaching home nursing, starting the first Future Nurses Club in the area, and recruited registered nurses for the Red Cross bloodmobile. She served as president of the Warren County School Nurses Association and was a member of the Warren County Dental Health Committee. Wilson Rush was a lifetime resident of Washington, New Jersey, graduating from Washington High School in 1931. Mr. Rush was an active supporter of the athletic programs at Washington High School, sponsoring and presenting sports awards for many years. For thirty-nine years, from 1953 to 1992, he served as a Washington Township committeeman, including several terms as township mayor. The Harriet and Wilson Rush Memorial Scholarship was begun in 1990. It is awarded annually to a graduating senior at Warren Hills High School who has been accepted at an accredited college or school of nursing with the intention of becoming a registered nurse. The purpose of this award is to encourage young men and women to enter the field of nursing and follow the examples of public service set by Harriet and Wilson Rush.
