The Pittsburgh Foundation

Margaret MacCann and Rose MacCann Memorial Fund

Established: 9/20/1994

Margaret, better known as "Peggy," and Rose were sisters. Unfortunately, very little is known about them. Peggy passed away on June 5, 1994, at the age of 82.

Peggy graduated from South Hills High School in 1930 and went on to the University of Pittsburgh where she studied for two years. In 1942, during World War II, she signed up for a course called the "Penn State Defense Training Program" and studied drafting. She continued her education at The Grace Martin Secretarial School downtown and worked for a short time for the Joseph Horne Co. in the "Slip Department."

Peggy took a position with an unknown Pittsburgh firm where she worked as a "clerk" for 31 years. She enjoyed painting and traveling abroad as evidenced by her passport, which she left in the care of The Pittsburgh Foundation, displaying the stamps of Romania, Czechoslovakia, Istanbul and Demark. The fund is Unrestricted, allowing The Foundation to grant organizations and charities to meet the community's needs.
