Haiti Relief Effort

Pittsburgh-based organizations mobilizing to support the emergency relief effort in Haiti can receive public donations free of credit card fees through PittsburghGives, the new on-line giving resource developed by The Pittsburgh Foundation. To donate to the Haiti Relief Effort click here. The Foundation said today that it will cover all credit card transaction and processing fees charged by its vendor for all donations to those local organizations supporting the relief effort. Local organizations responding to the relief effort include: American Red Cross, Brother’s Brother, Hospital Albert Schweitzer Haiti and Global Links. Donations to support the relief effort that are provided through PittsburghGives will go directly to the chosen organizations. Donations can be made to multiple organizations from the site.

The Pittsburgh Foundation launched a major initiative to increase charitable giving and support nonprofit organizations with a special ‘Match Day’ in October 2009. In just 22 minutes and 11 seconds, $1,498,416 was received in on-line gifts.

Of the 355 participating nonprofits, 83% received a contribution. 972 donors participated and 75% were matched during the period. We thank you all for your participation and support. We are currently collecting your feedback and will use this to refine and enhance our PittsburghGives program.
