In December of 2020, Charmelle Jackson was named as the vice president of human resources and chief diversity, equity & inclusion officer for The Pittsburgh Foundation. She is responsible for organization development, staff training and coaching, human resources policies and practices, talent acquisition and management, and cross-team collaboration to create and sustain a high performing organization. Charmelle, along with members of senior leadership team, ensures racial equity and inclusion are incorporated, in a meaningful way, into all aspects of the organization. She works to also aligns people, processes and policies with the Foundation’s values, culture and brand to create a learning organization committed to employee growth and continued organizational development.

Charmelle joined the Foundation in 2015 to oversee human resources functions for the Foundation and its supporting organizations. She works with senior management to develop and implement policies and practices that enhance the Foundation’s positive workplace culture. With Charmelle’s guidance, the Foundation’s employee-oriented environment emphasizes collaboration, quality, continuous improvement, high performance, problem-solving, professional development and goal attainment for the good of the community and the staff. Charmelle takes a proactive approach to engaging staff at all levels. She leads an internal team that reviews and recommends improvements to employee benefits, such as maternity/paternity leave, gym membership and employee parking and transportation. 

Prior to joining the Foundation’s staff, Charmelle was payroll manager for AAA East Central and was human resources generalist with the Northside law firm of Burns White LLC, where she supported hiring, new employee orientation, training and development programs and annual performance reviews. Charmelle is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, Pittsburgh Human Resources Association, Delta Mu Delta International Business Honor Society and the National Society of Professional Women. In 2016, she was named a New Pittsburgh Courier’s Women of Excellence awardee.
