The Pittsburgh Foundation

Andy B. Fund

Established: 5/24/2006

Andrew Michael Wesley Broadwater was a sports-loving teenager who grew up with an adoring family and a huge circle of friends. He enjoyed playing golf, basketball and baseball as a student at Geibel Catholic High School in Connellsville. However, in May 2004, his life took a devastating turn when doctors diagnosed him with osteosarcoma, a malignant bone cancer most often found around the connective tissue of the knee.

As physically tough as he was, Andrew faced a difficult, uphill battle that required chemotherapy and surgery. During the following year, he underwent treatment at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. While the results were initially promising, giving family and friends hope for the best, the cancer returned.

On June 19, 2005, he passed away at the age of 18. His parents, Tom and Michelle, and older brothers, Tom and Jason, created the Andy B. Fund in his memory to raise awareness and funding for research in the fight against this deadly disease.
